terrorist in northern Nigeria detonated explosives at a crowded market
place in the city of Biu which is plagued by Boko Haram Takfiri group.
"There
has been a[n] … attack by a female … bomber in the market this
afternoon," said a witness identified in an AFP report as Babagani Ali,
who lives in the Borno state town, 180 kilometers south of the state
capital of Maiduguri.
There has been no official confirmation of the deadly blast, nor claim of responsibility for the terror attack on Thursday.
The
development comes as Nigeria and its neighbors pledged earlier in the
week to create an 8,700-strong force to battle the Boko Haram terror
campaign, which has been spilling over beyond the country's borders.
"The
representatives of Benin, Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and Chad have
announced contributions totaling 8,700 military personnel, police and
civilians," said a joint statement on Saturday after a three-day summit
in Cameroon's capital Yaounde.
This is while the escalating terror
efforts by the Takfiri militants have killed at least 13,000 people and
rendered more than a million others homeless since 2009.
African Union leaders will submit the plan for the force to the UN Security Council for approval.
A
major offensive with warplanes and ground forces from Chad and Nigeria
has already forced the militants out from a dozen Nigerian towns and
cities. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
